Domestication, 2009 - 2012

The images in Domestication began as part of the Novel project. Many of the locations used for Novel also house animals, and I often found myself drawn to them and began taking their portraits. As I collected more and more portraits, I began thinking about the symbiotic relationships humans have developed with animals over the centuries and how their care has often shaped how and where humans chose to live. The images are intended to show the dignity and humor of these creatures we have chosen for our companions, for laborers, and for food.
