Houses I Have Haunted, 2021
“The Beauty of the House is immeasurable; its Kindness infinite”
Piranesi, Susanna Clarke
I started building paper houses from vintage kits during the pandemic as an escape from the mental and physical confinement of the quarantine. The paper houses are classic Victorian home styles: the archetypal haunted house. During the process of constructing and photographing these houses, I began to imagine them inviting me to a place of serenity and reflection within their walls. Unlike the forbidding Victorian houses of Hopper and Burchfield, these homes welcomed me in to haunt them. I became a ghost and the houses embraced me.
